Evaluating the garden
Doing a thorough evaluation of your garden to find out which plants are performing well and which aren't is crucial. This simple process can cut short not just the time and labor put into the work but also the amount of money put into a reconstruction work. Some plants not growing well may be the result of taller trees or thicker shrubbery. This can be fixed by trimming the branches to reduce the shade. Overgrown shrubs can be trimmed up as well, or they can be eliminated. But if you don't want to do that then trimming them in specific shapes can make your garden unique. You can also opt to keep some plants which thrive in shades like hostas, begonias, and impatiens to forego trimming much.
Clean your garden
Apart from just trimming your plants and shrubs, take a rake and gather all the fallen rotting leaves. Spend a day taking out weeds and getting rid of the moss accumulating around till the soil at regular intervals and water your plants daily. Get your soil tested to see what plants can grow well there and proceed accordingly. A clean garden is healthy for the plants growing and is aesthetically pleasing as well.
Make a secret spot
A garden looks more attractive when it is lived in. Adding a secret sweet place where you can relax amongst beautiful flowers and cool shade would be beneficial during the summers. Put up a picket fence with some climbing vines to create that closed in cozy place. Add some tall or short container plants to increase the green around you. Put in a reclining chair in the midst of it to complete the picture.
Put up some artificial trees
Real trees require a lot of care, but it's also true that in this busy life devoting that time can be difficult. So you can use artificial outdoor trees, like some artificial red oak trees, faux olive tree, large silk trees and such. Or if you have a red oak tree but don't want to deal with sprouting branches then put in red oak trees with artificial branches to lessen your workload. If you want your garden to see more like a beachside, then combine sparkling white sand with fake outdoor palm trees to get the desired relaxing effect.
Check the focal point
All places and gardens especially benefit from an excellent focal point. Small gardens can do with just one, but large gardens look more cohesive with several ones. Focal points act as the thing which brings the whole place together to give it a clean feel and appearance. It can be sculpture, fountain or anything. For small gardens, you can use a large pot as the center of main attention and then surround it with shorter ones. For larger ones put large stones right along the pathways or install a trellis full of climbing plants to create an attractive focal point.
Put in a bird bath
Some quick and easy ways to make the garden more put together is by installing a bird feeder or even a bird bath. Making your garden inviting for small birds makes it look not just more peaceful but also more natural. Put up bird feeders either on trees, or you can opt to put them up separately as well. As for bird baths, using a decorative one that works in cohesion with the garden style will do wonders but if the garden is large then installing a small pond with some fishes, in addition to the bath would work too.
Install an arch and put on some paint
No matter the size of the garden, a beautiful pergola can act as a significant attraction by creating a walkway or an arc. To make it more soothing add in a variety of climbing roses or perhaps add in another pergola plant as such. Get your garden straightened out by adding a fresh coat of paint to the wooden fences or add some climbing plants if you have link fencing or latticework.
Add in some lights
Adding some beautiful lighting can provide an instant makeover to your garden if you want to host a party at night or perhaps want to relax out there after a hard day at work. The lighting can depend on both the garden size as well as your tastes, but dramatic lights are excellent for lighting up a large area but subtle and soft lights like string ones work extraordinarily well to create an otherworldly soothing experience.
Plant some crab apple trees
This might sound like a specifics thing, but weeping crab apple trees are not just inexpensive but a planting a few will make a significant difference in the look of your garden. They grow well and live longer to make your garden look filled up and beautiful. If not apples, then try planting small trees like Juneberries, ornamentals cherries or Amelanchier lamarckii.
When planning to create patios or paths then opt for gravel as it is more affordable than going for paving. You can do it by yourself as well, mark out the area you are going to lay it on. Then scrape away all the loose grass and soil, put down a membrane to prevent weeds from coming through and then spread gravel all over it. Always go for a depth of 2.5 cm. It's advisable to use a gravel color which will contrast with the planting and lawn.
A garden takes work to be made manageable but following the above steps will make your garden look good with less money and moreover, less of an effort. Choose what goes best for your garden and then apply with ease.
